tricky

Let's admit it. The sky in these photographs is awesome. It is so bright in some places and so sinister in others. But that's what life is all about right? Finding the balance between things. Today was the first day where it actually hit me: it's autumn. Leaves are falling, things are changing, and days are getting shorter. I refuse to admit that November starts tomorrow, or that my teachers have started discussing finals and classes for the spring already. But if there's anything that I've learned in college (outside of the classroom), it is that you just have to embrace change as it happens. So here's to warm apple cider with whipped cream, dorky sweaters and knit tights, and spending chilly nights watching Felicity, no matter how many times you've seen the episode.

on the corner of broadway and broome

Hello there!
As already stated several times, I had the time of my life this past weekend at Teen Vogue's Fashion University. Between meeting and attending seminars taught by some of my idols (Rumi Neely, Christian Siriano, Bryan Boy, Grace Coddington, Nicole Richie), to being interviewed by New York Magazine for "The Cut" (again, click here to see my interview with them), to just meeting other people who are like me. People who take the time to plan out what they're wearing and who don't necessarily follow trends, and who believe that fashion is the greatest form of personal expression.
One of my favorite brands, Brirish-based TopShop, once again hosted the Saturday night festivities at their SoHo store, but this time decided to throw in a blogging opportunity as well! Here are some of my favorite moments, merchandise and miscellaneous snapshots from the event!

The highlight of the party was undoubtedly meeting Andrew Bevan, Style Features Editor for Teen Vogue. I made a choice not to go to design school and he reassured me that attending a liberal arts college would not hurt and could even help me stand out when applying for a job in the industry. He also said that there's something to be said for being a person deeply interested in fashion at a school where the majority of people don't think about it as much. He was such a pleasure to talk to and I gave him my card so, Andrew, if you're reading this, thanks again for everything!

the other university

Okay, I'm still in the process of blogging about this weekend at Teen Vogue Fashion University, so I'm going to break it down so it's not as overwhelming. Here are some photos from my tour of the editorial floor. I know, I know, I'm a toootttaaal hipster for wearing my knee-highs with my wedges. Judge me. Do it.

One of the highlights of this weekend was being interviewed by Katie, a writer for "The Cut" which is New York Mag's online fashion section. Click here to see my picture (or just look right above this it's right there) and interview with her.

Also check my Instagram @jane_aus10 for more pictures from this weekend and keep checking back here for more pictures and posts to follow!

kickoff

Hello fellow fashion  lovers!
Just because it's the weekend for some of us, doesn't mean the learning ever stops! This weekend I'm in NYC at Teen Vogue's Fashion University! This is my second year doing the program which is a three-day seminar of classes in the city taught by industry professionals. The bulk of my classes take place tomorrow and I will be posting about them as soon as I can! Tonight was the kickoff party at H&M which featured the LA indie pop band, Blondfire. The whole night was awesome, especially the 25% discount! I can't wait to post more about this tomorrow!

Titled as such because I do owe you guys big time. This weekend I got to come home for the first time since school started and it's just been so nice to take a break from everything going on at school. So I will make it up to you guys because this weekend I'll be attending Teen Vogue's Fashion University in the city and will be posting as constantly as possible throughout the weekend. Here's a little snapshot of what to expect this coming weekend:

Get pumped! There's lots of exciting stuff to come!!

big apple

Hello everybody!
Hope everyone had a safe and relaxing weekend! I got go to into the city on Saturday for my African Art History class. It was nice to escape the so-called "Muhlen-bubble" for a day and just walk around the city. I went to the Met for my assignment, then went down to Chelsea and did some shopping, and then visited my friend's apartment downtown. My favorite part of the city is probably people-watching on the subways. Nothing beats some of the weirdos on the 6 train.

Thanks to my friend Michael for helping with this shoot!

Top: Forever 21, Jacket: H&M, Jeans: Rag & Bone, Boots: Sam Edelman, Sunglasses: Target
Necklace: Buffalo Exchange

Here are some photos from the Met:

I got to see the Warhol exhibit in addition to my classwork which was fantastic. They wouldn't let me take pictures, unfortunately, but I took a few as I walked through the modernist gallery to get to the exhibit. These guys are some of my favorite modernists:

DeKooning

Rothko

Pollock

These two girls were walking around the lower east side and I HAD to stop them and take a picture. They're both rocking the crop top trend and their boots are too fabulous for words.

That's it for now! Until next time,

fulani

Hello everybody!
I know it's Wednesday and everyone is starting to lose their minds, so here's a little something to help you get through the week. I wanted to share something that I learned about in my African art history class. I've really loved this class so far because I knew a lot about art in Europe coming into the class, but very little about Africa with the exception of Egypt. The tribe that we talked about this week is the Fulani tribe. Just to give a bit of background, they used to live in the Sahara, before it was a desert, and they began to migrate east from there. They are primarily a nomadic pastoralist people.
They have a festival called Gerewol where the men dress up in makeup and extravagant clothing and they dance. The women judge them for how attractive they are. So in a way, it's sort of like a male beauty pageant. But that doesn't mean that the women don't get dressed up as well! Here are some photos that we looked at in class:

And I thought I spent a lot of time on my hair in the mornings...

By the way, for any of you 'Berg students, Denise McGlynn, who you may have read about a few posts back is here at Muhlenberg tomorrow by the main entrance at Seegers so make sure to check her out if you didn't get to visit her last time! If you want to know more about here and see some of the stuff she makes, click here

By the way, it turns out the e-mail address on here wasn't forwarding properly so now any e-mails you send to keepcalmandchiffon@gmail.com should get to me without a problem.

I think that's it for now! Here's to Friday almost being here!

Until next time,
Keep Calm and Chiffon
