street style

Check out some of NYC's most fashionable crowd!

Love her shoes!

The sunglasses are the icing on top of the outfit.

We exchanged business cards! Check out her site as well!

For someone who doesn't like having her picture taken, she sure is photogenic!

abbreviated soliloquy

Sometimes things don't turn out the way you thought they would. This cliche and overly used phrase embodies my experience in Quebec City which fell short of expectations to say the least, but still managed to serve as a suitable backdrop for a photo shoot. Don't mind the half-braided bedhead. It was just that kind of day.

millennium

The early 20th century is shown off in the Met's exhibit Impressionism, Fashion and Modernity and the Punk exhibition, curated by Andrew Bolton, recalls the end of the millennium and launches us into the contemporary age. Seeing both in one day allowed for high contrast and varied perspective. I loved going from the ephemeral and European grace in the Impressionism gallery to the harsh, gritty street style that reflected the Punk style. The Impressionism exhibit closes on the 27th so hurry over if you haven't gotten a chance! A poet was quoted on the wall in the exhibit saying the pieces depicted an "animating subject composed of a harmony of reflected and ever-changing lights...with movement, light and life."

crossing

Converse, check. T-shirt, check. Studded baseball cap, check. Denim cutoffs, check. Loose curls, check. A little reminiscent of Kendrick Lamar's lyrics to Swimming Pools, but a completely accurate way to account for all of the ingredients for a superb casual outfit. I wish blogs had interactive features, because everyone should be able to indulge in the soft material of this Beverly Hills t-shirt. It is the ultimate worn-in and light fabric for a hot day such as today which was spent consuming brunch at a cafe, exploring my favorite boutique (admittedly for the third time in a week) and topping it off with the usual order from Dairy Queen. A recipe for perfection? I think so.

juxtaposition

Where structure meets draping is the perfect crossroads of fashion. I love the harsh lines in mesh of this body-concious dress contrasted with the ease of the nude blazer thrown over it. The dress reminds me of a more ready-to-wear version of Alexander Wang's Spring 2013 collection. I wanted to keep the entire outfit clean, and simple with a neutral color palette and minimal accessories. But the avid readers of this blog all know that's not who I am. It's just who I felt like when I woke up.

more issues than vogue

Being home is surreal. Permanently draping clothing over hangers in my closets and filling my drawers instead of living out of a duffle bag for a weekend is throwing me off. Thankfully, the majority of the chaos that was move-out day has been contained in its rightful place at home, but it has only launched me on a whole new trend of organization and cleaning and de-cluttering. Good thing I now have all of this free time on my hands!

suddenly, ultimately, finally

And just like that, I'm in my last week of freshman year. Insanity is an understatement, reality is an overstatement. Although it seems impossible, nine months ago I was packing up my life to come here. And now I'm digging around for bags trying to figure out how to transport the contents of my 13' by 9' double room back home in preparation for the four months of sunshine, urban adventures and hard work that await me in the summer. That being said, it's finals week and I haven't had time to even breathe for a second, never mind create a mind-blowing post for you guys. But here's an excerpt from my final media paper. (about fashion blogging!!! How my professor let me write about that I don't know but how awesome is that?)

(Source: NY Times)

"Bloggers are slowly but surely becoming a reliable, of-the-moment source of information, not just for fashion but also for hundreds of different topics. The way the current generation consumes media is turning out to be very different than expected because the pace is so fast it is almost immediate. As Eric Wilson (2009) points out, “Blogs are posting images and reviews of collections before the last model exits the runway, while magazine editors are still jockeying to feature those clothes in issues that will be published months later.” (Wilson, 2009) Blogs have made remarkable strides in gaining both readership and higher profiles. They are not just Internet banter. In fact, they are shaping the industry. They are creating an interesting shift in publication because blogs and websites have videos and pictures up of collections as they are happening whereas magazines typically run on a schedule that displays collections several months after their reveal. This ignites the idea of identifying where bloggers fit in this world and in this media revolution. The way things are going, the term 'expert' may need to be reexamined, attributing the name to knowledge instead of just experience."

Also, since I didn't give you guys a post this week, click through to my friend Sabrina's blog and get lost in heart-shaped sunglasses, high low skirts and strappy sandals.

groovy

Mid sixties describes both the temperature and the atmosphere of the past weekend. After seeing my brilliant friend Alexa perform in a production of "Hair" on Friday night we hung out all day Saturday at Fun Day, essentially a day of no-stress, moon bounces and tons of music. Oh, and did I mention major fashion moments galore??? Pictured directly below is a shot of Alexa and me, and the following photos are of girls who I thought looked truly spectacular. Their styles range from leather tops to rainbow pants to graphic tees to decorative denim. (check out the Keep Calm and Chiffon detail Jake added to this girl's shorts!) Definitely gave me lots of festival style inspiration for the summer!
