hearts without chains

Snapshots of lavender sunsets behind silhouettes of barren trees and boxes of brown sugar and abandoned bridges are strung together to create a weekend that radiates warmth. Time should stand still and give answers to all of the questions that don't seem to have them. Home means falling asleep under a Monet print, rereading old favorite novels and laughing too hard with family and friends. No complaints from me. From where I stand, I've got it all.

the search for solace

On Saturday we welcomed the first flurries of the season to earth. As they fell, people cheered and congratulated them on completing their long descent from the cotton candy skies to our chaotic world. That is, some people did. At heart, I am a summer child and am nostalgic for nights of fireflies in mason jars and dancing in the heat at music festivals. Maybe the coldness will inspire me to adventure somewhere warmer; fall off the face of the map and drive off into oblivion. Explore abandoned desert camps and find scraps of burlap left behind by another bunch of someones. Or maybe I'll just make some hot chocolate, curl up in bed and hibernate for a few weeks. Who's with me?

armor

I blame New York entirely for my gravitational pull towards black and white. There's that timelessness in the combination that makes me lose my mind when I see them together. The two of them act as armor and have the power to take on the immensity of a relentless and restless city. They may not appear very warm, but they will always protect you.

above amsterdam

Some people argue that New York City streets all look the same. That the grid system predestined a shared chemistry and that it's all just concrete and paint. But once you've lived here for a while you know that each street has its own personality. Amsterdam has the much-loved Insomnia cookies, the quiet and cool Hungarian Pastry Shop, the sandwich king Subs Conscious and the giant church of Saint John the Divine. But that's just how I see it. What do you think?

valley of the moon

A country road. Late morning. Curls getting messy in brief gusts of winds, and tossing leaves around seeing if they'll fly. A french courtship slip, or two. The boots I wear whether it's March August or November or any of the other nine clusters of dates. And the kind of layering that makes you feel warmer despite the descending temperatures.

among the evergreens

Okay, I know I've seriously been pushing my luck here, but I can say with complete and utter certainty  that Friday was DEFINITELY the last perfect beautiful camisole appropriate day of the year. And somehow it felt even warmer because I got to visit some incredible people who I don't see every day, but are always in my heart.

Thanks, Mira for the photos <3
