better than ever

And once again, in the blink of an eye, another year evaporates. It always shocks me and it really shouldn't by now. I remember this time last year thinking about hearing back from colleges and actually graduating and if everything would be what I expected it would be. If you had told me that half of the stuff that happened to me this year would happen, I wouldn't have believed you because I would have said it all sounded too good to be true. And as I spend these last days of 2012 cleaning out my closet, reading all of the books that have been stacking up next to my bed that I haven't gotten to, and having reunion after reunion with old friends, I'm just beyond grateful for everything in my life. So thank you for being a part of it, by following along from the beginning, or checking in once in a while, or even if you're clicking through for the first time. PS- new year, new hair. Duh.

all of the lights

So since it's the season of forgiveness, I'm assuming that you all forgive me for falling off the map for ten days. Kay? Kay. But I've had the best break so far- I've spent the past few weeks just seeing and catching up with friends over some gingerbread lattes, laughing so hard that I fell off of my chair, and sharing moments in the falling, glittering snow. It's the time of year when every time my friends walk in they comment on how delicious it smells and every inch of the house is sprinkled with Christmas decor.  And let's be honest- nothing will warm a girl's heart more...than a new pair of Jeffery's (even with the cutouts!) <3

buffalo

There's nothing that will get a fashion-obsessed girl to hand in her finals three days early than a Teen Vogue party for a store opening in Soho. Nothing. The store, Buffalo by David Bitton, just opened it's first US retail store in Soho and it was totally worth checking out. My friend Cat and I spent an evening indulging in music infused with energy, adorable bite-sized snacks, and of course, gorgeous clothes. I finally got the Chanel-esque jacket I've been pining for for years. I'm sure I'll post about it in the near future and you'll see my rave review. I also got to meet Mary Kate Steinmiller, Senior Fashion Market Editor of Teen Vogue who gave me some advice about how to get started in the industry. Not bad for a  Wednesday.

Credit to Cat for helping me with the shoot and also suggesting we run across the street to TopShop where we encountered this cool galaxy background!

acrylics

For me, finals week isn't an excuse to break out the sweats. It is an excuse to look good and feel good because you're working hard. For the most part. But that does not mean that I don't save time for a good, old-fashioned adventure every once in a while. I went with my friend Jessie to pick up her art portfolio and couldn't resist taking some pictures in the studio. I'm not exactly sure what I'm sitting on or if I'm allowed to be up there, but there's not much that can be done about that now. I love the back detailing of this shirt more than life itself. I think.

FIT flashback

Since finals have left me with no motivation to study, here are some photos that my friend Christina e-mailed me from the class I did at FIT over the summer. She styled this shoot and we wandered around the Chelsea area taking pictures. My favorite thing about this outfit is that the vest angles down in the front just as the skirt angles up. I love the graffiti backgrounds we found, especially with the conveniently parked food truck; too cool! I'm also sporting my namesake fabric (chiffon of course!) which was an added bonus. I miss summer, but can't wait to hand in these finals, get home, and finish decorating for Christmas. And finally, just for a moment, breathe.

inter galactic travels

maybe not inter-galactic, exactly, but with all of the lights and the store fronts and the decorations, New York comes pretty damn close to seeming like another planet entirely. escaping Allentown for the day is always a treat in itself, but getting to just hang out with my friends and do whatever we wanted made it twice as lovely. the day included peppermint mochas and long chats on the bus and bumpy subway rides and holiday sales and tons of tourists. either way it made me happy.

cranes

so of course, my procrastination got the better of me yesterday and I forgot to shoot in daylight. so, I figured, why not move the shoot inside and show off my dorm room! I love my room at school. As my roommate would say it has a great "ambiance" to it. there are pillows everywhere, and twinkle lights and paper cranes and artwork and I just love it. I'll do more photos of my room someday hopefully when it's cleaner than it was yesterday (Mira and I had a garage sale of clothes which left the room looking like the aftermath of a tornado). although, one of the downsides to shooting indoors is not the best lighting. also, this is my first experiment with hair chalk, which is literally chalk that you use on your hair. it's really fun and it washes out the next day. that's one of the many amazing things I found on wanelo.com. don't know what that is? ohhmmyygoddd go right now and get addicted. because you will.

approaching

And in traditional Tosone family fashion (no pun intended), as soon as the plates are cleaned and the turkey has been carved and the tablecloth gets thrown in the washing machine, we rummaged around in the basement and pulled out the tree and the lights and the extensive collection of ornaments that have been accumulating since before I was born. My family loves Christmas. We deck the halls, the mantle and the shrubs outside the day after Thanksgiving and most of it stays up through January (and occasionally February!). Suddenly, all of these things are approaching: finals, the holidays, next semester. But the cool and scary thing is we only know that they're coming. We'll never be sure what they are going to bring.

hot air balloons

First of all, I wanted to give a shout out to all of my friends from freshman year of high school who told me I would stop dressing up for school by junior year. Hate to break it to you, but you were so wrong. It is that crazy time on campus right now where everyone is rushing to register for classes and we're all in "get me the hell out of here" mode. Thanksgiving break is currently the light at the end of a long tunnel comprised of essays, exams and existential moments. In other news, I'm wearing my velvet boots again. Sorry, not sorry.

Shout out to Erin for taking pictures and Allie for... well... being there

fallen

I have a crush. A color crush. It's on the color of my shorts and boots. Last year it was called burgundy, this season it's oxblood. In the last few weeks, there has been nothing but cold, biting air. Today was a breath of fresh air. So, I took complete advantage of this gorgeous day and sat in some leaves. I got these boots about a week ago and haven't taken them off since (except for once when Mira borrowed them!) They're comfy and they're velvet and they're burgundy. Oxblood. Whichever.

tricky

Let's admit it. The sky in these photographs is awesome. It is so bright in some places and so sinister in others. But that's what life is all about right? Finding the balance between things. Today was the first day where it actually hit me: it's autumn. Leaves are falling, things are changing, and days are getting shorter. I refuse to admit that November starts tomorrow, or that my teachers have started discussing finals and classes for the spring already. But if there's anything that I've learned in college (outside of the classroom), it is that you just have to embrace change as it happens. So here's to warm apple cider with whipped cream, dorky sweaters and knit tights, and spending chilly nights watching Felicity, no matter how many times you've seen the episode.
